From 10 May to 13th in NYC: Orfeu Negro Photography Exhibit with Fotos for Favelas

Lais Lacher, founder of Fotos for Favelas, is excited to announce that the photography organizations will be featured in the Orfeu Negro Exhibit in downtown Manhattan, from 10th to 13th May.
A great organization called Ticún Brasil, that organizes volunteer trips to Brazil, has partnered with Fotos For Favelas to put on this great event.

The event will feature Fotos For Favelas photos as well as work from prominent Brazilian and French artists.

The event will also have live Brazilian music, refreshments and a chance to talk with different Ticún volunteers.

All proceeds from photographs will go back to Fotos For Favelas.

The exibition will open from 7-10pm on Thursday May 10th and the closing is from 6-9pm on May 13th at FB Gallery368 Broadway #209, New York, NY 10013

You can read more about the event at the facebook event here www.facebook.com/events/425426897474904/

The organization plans to create a sustainable community garden and a recycling program with the money. If we raise even more money we plan to hold another photography workshop in the Rocinha favela this coming fall. Fotos for Favelas have also received great press from The EagleFFJD and this site, 7Days in Photography.

As another fundraising opportunity, Fotos For Favelas is now selling boxes of cards of 10 cards for $25 dollars. Each box of cards will have ten different photos and a bio of the child who took the photo. They make great thank you cards as well as gifts! You can order them directly through me.

#77 Borlin Giveaway

BORLIN GIVEAWAY : WIN THIS PICTURE BY BEATRICE AVALLONE.

beatrice avallone photos
Beatrice_Avallone_photographer

Beatrice Avallone was born in Asti, an Italian town, on the 9th of April 1991, and she certainly isn’t a photographer.
You could instead define her as a real egoist: she loves to steal moments, using her camera lens, so that she can make them all hers. This is what she is talented at, almost naturally, despite the fact that she has never studied this art.
She just steals without a care, smiles, emotions, sensations or objects (and subjects) of every kind: she sees something that she likes and wants, no matter what, and click, she captures it.

#73 Jeff Harris: 4,748 Self-Portraits

An image a day for 13 Years and counting. This is the project of Jeff Harris, a Toronto-based photographer, who began to take every day a portrait of himself since 1999.

At the moment, he has taken 4,748 self portraits, but the project is going on day by day.

He used the project to inspire him in his daily life, to go out and do something that would get him off his couch.

jeff harris selfportrait

"I was very much a 9-to-5 person and the project itself was a challenge for me to get outside and not make it look like I had a cubicle job, but that I actually was running around and doing a different interesting thing each day," Harris said.

But that's not all. You can find and buy the limited edition print (200), made by 3653,00 Self Portrait, on Jeff Harris web site.

#68 Shoot 4 Change NextGeneration needs your help to collect new and used cameras

Following the Success of S4C Next Generation projects in Rome, Barcelona, New York and Costa Rica, the Barcelona based Catalan photographer Cristina Senserrich, which last year visited the island of Nampula in Mozambique to establish the non-profit organization “Africa Sin Fronteras“, will launch a S4C Next Gen project there in Mozambique!

shoot4change nextgenerationHer aim is to give young locals the opportunity to approach the  World of documentary photography, in the hope that this will be an opportunity for a potential professional development in their future.

Currently, in the island of Nampula there are neither journalists nor local photographers, but only members of various international organizations, so training future local reporters is a real challenge and a big opportunity.

As you can imagine the difficulty of having cameras, not only for our classes, but also for the  practice of, is the main obstacle to the project.

For this reason, we need YOUR help to collect new and used cameras (complete with battery charger and memory cards) that will eventually be shipped to Mozambique with a one way ticket.

Alternatively, Shoot4Change can also collect funds with which we’ll buy cameras for Nampula Kids.

Collection centers for materials or for donations will be both Rome
